Quick method for The Dead that Live: If you have done thru book 12 in volume 1, there is a way to solo the BG undead deed. Go to the reflecting pool in Aughaire & pick the quest that you meet Sara Oakheart inside BG. Do just the first part of this quest, which you & Sara will kill 12 or so undead. Leave the instance before she goes into the throne room. If you go back right after this it will pick right back up where you left off, this is why book 12 is important. From the reflecting pool, you start the book 12 instance that takes you inside Carn Dum. Soon as you load in, just turn around & head out the door, this will send you back to Aughaire & reset the book 9 instance. Just rinse & repeat until the BG undead deed is done. The 5 instances/hour rule applies.
